“The Kingsnorth Six made history last year: accused of causing £30,000 of criminal damage to Kingsnorth power station, their defence of “lawful excuse” was accepted by the jury – because they were acting to safeguard property around the world “in immediate need of protection” from the impacts of climate change, caused in part by burning coal.”

VISIONonTV Climate Camp 2008

VISION on TV

This screening featured a selection of short films that were originally broadcast over the internet during this year’s Climate Camp through Undercurrent’s VisionOn TV channel.

The Climate Camp 2008 took place between the 3rd and 11th August, on the site of a proposed coal fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent.  The camp received some mainstream media attention, but journalists generally had limited and chaperoned access to the camp to avoid a media circus. Undercurrents however had unrestricted access with a permanent solar and wind powered studio inside the camp, with news bulletins and chat shows uploaded to the internet on a daily basis.  These films offer the chance to see grassroots reports from an inspirational environmental campaign.

The screening was followed by some excellent discussion from the audience; stories from people who had attended the camp and analysis of the different approaches from this camp and 2007.
